Office 365 E3 Mac Download: Tips and Tricks for Optimizing Your Productivity

To help with issues you might encounter when installing Microsoft 365 because of slow speeds or unreliable connections, as a first step download the Support and Recovery Assistant tool. (For information about this tool, go here.)

If the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant didn't help, follow the steps below that are specific to your plan. You need to be connected to the internet to download this installer file, but once that's done, you can then install Microsoft 365 offline on a PC at your convenience.

To download the offline installer, go to www.office.com. If you're not already signed in with the Microsoft account associated with your copy of Microsoft 365 or Microsoft 365 do that now. If you're signed in with a different account, sign out of that and then sign in again with the correct Microsoft account.

When you're prompted, from the bottom of your browser window, select Save (in Edge), Open (in Internet Explorer), Open when done (in Chrome), or Save File (in Firefox). The file will begin downloading on your PC.

Once the download is complete, open File Explorer and locate a new virtual drive, for example (D:). This drive contains the Microsoft 365 installation files. If you don't see the new drive, locate the image file you downloaded and double-click it. The new drive should appear in your directory.

If you have a Microsoft 365 for business product you can use the Microsoft 365 Deployment Tool (ODT) to download and install Microsoft 365 or Microsoft 365 offline. The tool is designed for enterprise environments and runs from the command line, so the steps are more complicated--but they'll still work for installation on a single device.

If you have a Microsoft 365 Apps for business or Microsoft 365 Business Standard plan, you need to download the Microsoft 365 Apps for business version. For all other plans, download the Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise version. See the following if you're not sure which version to install:

It can take a while to finish downloading and it may look like nothing is happening while the files are downloading. You'll know the installation is complete once the dialog box closes on its own, and a new folder called Office appears in the ODT folder you created earlier.

To complete any of the steps below, you'll need the email address and password associated with your active and licensed Microsoft 365 subscription or your one-time purchase of Microsoft 365 for Mac. This may be your Microsoft Account or the account you received from your organization. You will also have already downloaded and installed the Office suite.

Still not working? Open Safari and go to Preferences > Security tab and make sure Enable Javascript is selected. Then go to the Privacy tab > Manage Website Data > Remove all. Start the download again using Safari.

Even though it is a cloud-based service, Microsoft 365 apps don't run in the cloud. Instead, users download the apps from the Microsoft 365 portal and install them on their local computers, available on Windows, Mac, IOS and Android operating systems. Microsoft uses Click-to-Run technology to make the download and installation of Microsoft 365 apps fast and simple. Click-to-Run uses virtualization technology to run Microsoft 365 apps in a self-contained environment on a local computer, which allows users to run Microsoft 365 apps side-by-side with earlier versions of Office. Microsoft 365 apps are available in 32-bit* and 64-bit editions.

Tip: If you see an error that says the Microsoft Office installer.pkg can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer, wait 10 seconds and move the downloaded file to your desktop. Hold Control + click the file to launch the installer.

On the top taskbar of your Mac, you should see the Onedrive icon start to become animated as the the files start to sync, depending on the number of files, these may take some time to download

Randomly, I'll get an error stating that the attachments could not be downloaded, attachments are then greyed out. But, there doesn't seem to be a way to even retry to get the attachments to download again, I am forced to use Outlook Web client to go to that email and get the attachments to download there.

This triggers a complete refresh/download of the account (and can take some time). The only problem is that different messages fail to download the attachment. My last resort is to use Mac Mail linked to Exchange (for just to get the specific attachment) or web access. Neither is preferred.

Another frustration with this attachment-download issue is that you cannot forward or archive the message. It's stuck in your inbox unless you delete it. I tried moving several hundred messages to "My Computer" when my account reached it's limit and found several message left behind. All had the greyed out attachment. Makes archiving really frustrating.

For me this happens when Outlook for Mac 2016 tries to download attachments using a weak internet connection. Somehow, the download fails, and Outlook is unable to re-download later when a better connection is available. So the greyed out attachments are just stuck in limbo -- can't open, can't redownload.

It is now 2017 and this bug still exists. Will MS get off their arse and fix it? All we need is a "try downloading this email again" button available for the email. This button deletes the email from the inbox but downloads it from fresh from the Exchange server and saves it to the inbox as expected.

This drove me nuts for a few minutes, and after searching here I thought I'd try a twist on the empty cache feature. I figured out how to fix it with the empty cache without re-downloading your entire mailbox (which could be gigs of data, if you're at all like me).

5. The email should re-download (you'll see the "All folders are up to date" message or the "Sync Pending for this folder" message to let you know the status. Once downloaded, you can then move the email back to your inbox (or any other folder of your choice). 2ff7e9595c
