THERE WAS LIFE BEFORE MOVING
It's a life that can be measured in decades. When a place called St. Paul's School is where a child is introduced to the world. Before we get to the play, let's take a look at what happened in the life of this school, this place. It's important to put things in the right perspective.
The football field, the baseball field and the basketball court that you see today were used by students. When the school began, though, the entire campus was taken up by the construction of seven beautiful stone buildings. Just imagine the entire campus being filled up with kids!
In 1908, the school expanded, with the addition of more classrooms, more dormitories and a chapel. At the end of the day, those seven buildings could accommodate a population of 2,600 students.
In the early 1950s, the school built a new gymnasium and dormitories. The school continued to grow, and in the 1960s, enrollment had grown to over 5,000.
On September 8, 1963, the community remembered what would have been the 50th anniversary of the school with a ceremony and an evening of entertainment.
The first two headmasters of the school were Dr. William H. Rice and Dr. Robert J. Minkewicz. They brought many improvements to the school, most notably, the development of the boy's house. As part of the school's first 50 years, a Golden Jubilee Fund was established for the purpose of developing other improvements. The fund grew to $450,000.00 by 1967.
